SLAC is a community club in the truest sense - every meet, every PB, every smile on the track is made possible because families pitch in together. Volunteering isn’t just a requirement of Little Athletics; it’s part of what makes our Centre friendly, supportive, and fun for everyone.
Whether you’re new to athletics or have been around the track a few times, there’s a place for you here. Every role comes with guidance, training, and plenty of support.
Little Athletics is built on the values of Family, Fun and Fitness. At SLAC, that means:
creating a safe, inclusive environment for all children
keeping events running smoothly and on time
sharing the load so no one is stretched
modelling teamwork and community spirit for our athletes
With around 100 -130 athletes each season, we rely on parents and caregivers to help run events, support age groups, manage equipment, and keep the Centre operating. When everyone contributes a little, the experience is better for all.
There are two main ways families support the Centre:
Season-long roles are allocated at each AGM. You are welcome to self nominate for roles, or be nominated by others for roles. Each role comes with full support and counts as your family’s volunteer commitment for the season. These roles keep the Centre running and help build a strong, connected community.
These are simple, one‑off tasks completed during a meet. They’re ideal for families who prefer short, hands‑on help.
Examples include:
Age Group Assistant
Timing Assistant
Canteen or BBQ helper
Set‑up or Pack‑up crew
Track & Field helper
Marshal or Finish Line helper
No experience is needed - everything is explained on the day.
Volunteering at SLAC is friendly, relaxed, and supported. You’ll be working alongside other parents, helping athletes feel confident and safe, and contributing to the smooth running of the morning.
Most duties take around an hour. Many families tell us they enjoy being involved because:
they get to know other families
they feel more connected to their child’s sport
they learn new skills
they see their child’s events up close
And most importantly - the kids love seeing their grown‑ups involved.
No one is expected to know what to do on day one. Every role comes with:
clear instructions
friendly guidance from experienced volunteers
opportunities to shadow others
flexibility to fit your family’s needs
We’re here to help you feel confident and supported.
Whether you’d like to help once a month, take on a season‑long role, or join the Committee, we’d love to have you. Every contribution, big or small, helps create a positive experience for our athletes.
